The state has a health program which works for preventing controllable diseases and promoting overall health.
The Connecticut Department of Public Health was given a grant of $26,361 in 2011 by the US Department of Health and Human Services to implement “Healthy People 2020 Action Project”.
Since the rate of cancer (particularly among females) is rather high, this program has concerned itself primarily with research on hereditary cancers. These cancers include ovarian and breast cancers, the Lynch syndrome (a genetic disorder that makes people nearing the age of 50 years more vulnerable to colorectal cancer). Lynch syndrome can also make women more susceptible to ovarian cancer and cancer of the endometrium (the lining of the uterus).
Under this scheme, health care providers are given educational material about hereditary cancers and recommendations of the advisory panels for genetic testing. The hospitals have also been geared up to provide better services to patients.
The basic aim of Healthy Action Project is to help health care providers modify their referral practices and patient care with the aim of promoting overall health.
Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services of the state receive state funds to help people battling substance and alcohol abuse and to help homeless individuals across the state. The help offered to for substance abuse includes help with detoxification, residential treatment outside the hospital, counseling support, etc.
The Community Health Centers in the state help people work towards the goal of prevention and gradual eradication of chronic disorders like asthma, obesity, diabetes and cardiac problems. The preventive services provided by these centers encourage the patients and their families to step forward and actively participate in their own care.

There was a call for help at a Hobson Drive house. A man was found unconscious on his home with no life signs. The officer continued doing CPR for several minutes until the man regained a breath. The EMT services arrived and took the patient to the nearest hospital for prompt recovery.
