To provide succor to those affected by alcohol and substance abuse, the Access To Recovery (ATR) grant program was started. This program provides clinical treatment and recovery support service providers. It has since been helping monitor outcomes, preventing fraud, abuse and waste to make sure that federal funds are being put to proper use. ATR works for strengthening and improving the lives of individuals and families ruined by drug, alcohol and substance abuse and enabling them to lead their lives with respect and dignity.
ATR Ohana is meant to serve ALL individuals aged 12 years and older who are suffering from disorders caused by substance use, including those who have been diagnosed with HIV/AIDS and people suffering from methamphetamine related dental disease.
A free service by the name of Hawaii Immunization Registry has been started to have complete and accurate immunization details of all the residents of the state. Having such comprehensive records at all doctors’, nurses’ and health workers’ disposal makes sure that no one gets overdoses of immunization or misses a dose.
The Tobacco Quitline service provides online counseling services to all residents of the state who want to quit smoking. It has helped thousands of smokers get rid of this deadly addiction ever since its inception in 2005.
HHI (Healthy Hawaii Initiative) has been advocating the adoption of a healthier lifestyle and working towards that goal for the last ten years. This program encourages everyone to include more fruits and vegetables in their diet, to participate in a mild physical activity like walking for half an hour per day for at least five days a week and substituting full fat milk for milk with only 1%-2% fat. Understanding that drastic changes in lifestyle can be difficult to make or sustain for a long time, the program advocates taking small, achievable steps at a time till they become a part and parcel of daily lives and would not require any conscious effort.
