There are 105 public health clinics in the state and the immunization registry operates in each one of them and records judiciously the immunization details provided to them by all private and public health care providers.

Newborn Screening Program exists for the purpose of screening every baby born in Mississippi. All infants with abnormalities are referred to appropriate centers for assessment, testing and treatment. This scheme extends to all hospitals, tertiary care centers and screening laboratories. This program has helped save many precious lives and also to improve the health outcomes in many cases. The program has helped identify 718 disorders and diseases through regular screening, which includes genetic disorders as well.

The CPPW-STI (Communities Putting Prevention to Work) is a program sponsored by the state that works toward improving the general health of the people of the state by controlling lifestyle related diseases like obesity, etc. It has started vending healthy snacks across the state at snack bars, encouraged breastfeeding to improve the health of infants and encouraging the residents of the state to take up some form of physical activity.

The Office of Health Disparity Elimination is working to narrow the gap between the access to health care facilities between the different level of society, different income groups, locations, and age groups.
