The BRFSS (Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System) collects data about health risk behaviours among the people of the state and helps to identify the causes of death like cancer, heart disease, injury and diabetes.
Cardiovascular disorders have been identified as the leading cause of unnatural deaths in the state. The MCHP (Montana Cardiovascular Health Program) aims to address this problem by taking various steps.
The MCHP has collaborated with the ACC (American College of Cardiology) and helps to enforce the GAP (Guidelines of Applied Practice) by providing all health care providers and patients with all the data and tools that they might need for providing better care to the residents of the state.
A workplace campaign and various community based programs have been undertaken as part of the drive to impress upon the people the need to call 911 in case of an emergency.
The Montana Diabetic Association has, together with the MCHP, undertaken several steps to improve the nutrition available to the people of the state. These measures include providing funds for breakfast at school for underprivileged children and fresh food for mothers from the low income group.
Mar 03, 2021 -- Man saves his mom by performing CPR on the roadside
Ty, his mom, wife, and two kids loaded in a pickup to sell bulls in livestock auctions. After they were done they were on their way back home, when his mom blacked out with no pulse and no breathing. Ty had taken CPR training as part of his job training. So they laid her on the roadside and Ty started performing chest compressions and provided rescue breathing to his mom. He continued it for 20 minutes until EMS arrived. They gave her shocks using a defibrillator. Afterward, she had surgery and doctors put in two stents. She was safe then.
